Our Story
Founded in 1949 as a sound and paging company, Indiana Electronics & Communications was initially dedicated to providing secure sound and communications equipment to the school and hospital market in the Michiana area; this market demanded quality products in a 24/7 environment. The company positioned itself as the premier provider of these services from 1954 until 1980.
Our History
Since 1949
1950’s
Indiana Electronics Corporation was founded in 1949 by Ralph Wiesert. Ralph had served in the Navy during World War II. His expertise included radio, paging, intercom and speakers. Ralph used these skills to create a sound and paging company now known as IEC. Early customers included schools, churches, auditoriums and other large spaces requiring audio solutions.
1970’s
In the 1970s, Indiana Electronics Corporation began to provide expanded intercom and paging solutions to schools and hospitals. With products from Dukane Corp, Bogen, Valcom and others; Ralph grew relationships within the industry. DuKane Corp was a premier provider of Nurse Call systems during this time. The National Sales Manager for DuKane Corp at this time was a man named Harold George. When Ralph mentioned that he wanted to sell the business and retire, Harold decided that now was the time for him to own and run his own business.
1980’s
In 1978, the company was sold to Harold George, who brought with him a strong background in telecommunications. Prior to his time at DuKane Corp, Harold George had worked for International Telephone and Telegraph. During the 1980s, several manufacturers began to offer small phone systems for businesses. There was a great demand for these products and with Harold’s knowledge of telecommunications, Indiana Electronics Corporation began to sell telephone systems. Telephone systems grew rapidly and Indiana Electronics began to transition as a provider of business telephone systems.
Early 2000’s
After the start of the new century, Harold began to think about retirement. It was obvious that future systems would increasingly rely on computers and networks, rather than the existing digital switching technologies. A group of current and former employees learned of Harold’s interest in retiring and made an offer to purchase the company. In 2004, bringing with them complementary skillsets, that transition began. Harold stayed with the company as a business mentor and sales manager for another 10 years.
2010 and Beyond
While the company and industry moved into the areas of LAN/WAN networking and VoIP solutions. Indiana Electronics & Communications needed to design, build and optimize quality networks to ensure that voice quality was optimum. We became experts in Physical Cable Infrastructure, Local Area Networks (LAN), Switching, Routing, Virtual Private Networks (VNP), Firewall, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). This expertise created an opportunity for us to add other devices to the network. We began to add Wireless Access Points, IP Cameras, IP based Door Access Control and other network based products.
